Microsoft 1ES Identity

Among the projects I worked on at Microsoft, I’m particularly proud of the new identity for “One Engineering System”, or 1ES. This project was executed in collaboration with a new designer I hired and mentored, and it was a first step in improving the image of internal tools at Microsoft.

We played with the new logo for all communication. For example, in the poster for 1ES Day, a conference for all Microsoft Engineers and PMs to learn about best practices and new tools available.

We created a new wiki page for Microsoft employees to access information about the 1ES tools, but also to learn about what 1ES is and its mission, and we created newsletter templates that every team in 1ES is using to communicate their updates and call to actions.

I quickly learned that to empower engineering teams to ship products that customers love (our 1ES mission), we don’t need just tools. If involved early in the process, Design can strategically contribute to produce successful and enjoyable user experiences.

At the 1ES Day in 2019, I presented a talk about how designers, PMs, and developers can collaborate to make that happen.
